The Rooted Woman Box

miyo-iskwew — A woman living well

Three practices. One box. A season of coming home to yourself.

miyo-iskwew means a woman living well. This box holds three practices rooted in nêhiyawêwin and in the everyday work of caring for yourself — beading, journaling, and maskawisiwin (movement).

You'll find a full beading kit built around the kohkom flower, a five-petal design drawn by hand. You trace the template onto the Pellon provided, then choose your own colours from the beads in your box. Your flower doesn't need to look like mine — it should look like yours. Bead it in honour of whoever you choose: a grandmother, a mother, an auntie, a friend, or yourself.

The Rooted Journal Volume I comes with a branded pen and space to write your way through the season. The maskawisiwin cards and resistance band offer five simple movements you can do anywhere, along with a 30-day tracker to mark your progress.

Everything is made by hand, packed by hand, and sent with care.

Inside your box:

  • Czech Charlotte size 9 seed beads

  • Beading needles in a corked glass tube

About the kohkom flower

I asked my niece to draw me a flower.

She was young, and she drew it the way children draw — five petals, a light pink centre, blue petals, a green outline. Simple and sure. When I saw it, I knew what it would become.

My nohkom, Hilda Auger, is the woman I carry with me in this work. My niece knew her as her câpân. That drawing became a way to hold her — one hand of our family passing something to another, without anyone planning it that way.

That's why the flower is in this box. When you bead it, you're not beading my nohkom. You're beading whoever you carry. A grandmother, a mother, an auntie, a friend. Yourself.

Trace it, choose your own colours, and make it yours.
